Our Promise

Environment Promise: We use Forest Stewardship Council certified woods or woods salvaged from downed trees. All our boards are glassed with epoxy resin that is cleaner for our environment and emit 50-75% less Volatile Organic Compounds than polyester resin. In our shop, we have moderate ventilation and no need for a mask when glassing. It is also lighter and stronger than polyester. Our wood boards are nearly indestructible and should last a lifetime. Each board is crafted with concern for our environment.

Our promise: Ride our woodies for 30 days. If you don't like it, return it. If you clean the wax off, no charge, if not we'll deduct $35. Broken glass dings (which are nearly impossible to do) or damages void this Promise.

Making wood fins - Hatchet style

We've been using 9" Hatchet style fins for some time and really like the way they hold and allow for easy turning. Dan came across a 10.5" Hatchet and it works even better. Certainly there has to be some draw backs, probably too much bite for really swinging turns...don't know right now. Anyway, boredom struck and he started going through his wood pile.
Around 1985 he found a downed Sycamore tree, in a swamp that showed good potential for Spalting to develop. Spalting creates random black lines in wood. Rather rare, even more rare is to get large pieces and not to have the wood too decayed. Dan used pieces in furniture, drawer fronts and in places that would show off the beauty of Spalting wood.
So boredom, helped create some new fins for us to play with.
